Uprooted
Motion graphic title sequence
The title sequence is in every way a part of the movie. It's there to begin the story, fascinate the audience, introduce a world and create the atmosphere for the happenings yet to come. Reading the fictional book, Uprooted, written by Naomi Novik swept me into an exciting, marvelous adventure and mystery I had finished reading in about 3 days.
More About The Project
The animation technic used to create this project is motion graphics with 3D movement of camera in a virtual space. At first sketches were made, of the map inspired by the novel, in which the virtual camera will "film". After, the specific style frames designed, and at last the animation and camera movement.
Color Palette & Patterns
The color palette is bleak and rather dark, using a creepy array of colors combined with
patterns that originated in Polish and Russian cultures, in order to convey the atmosphere of the story.
Process & Sketches
The sketches were a very important part of the process, not just of the look and feel or the concept, but of the planning of layers and depth. Each scene was made from different planes, like the scenery of a puppet show.
Storyboard
Just like the sketches and planning for the 3D layout, the storyboard had a big part in the planning of the movement and and design of all the layers.
